Tadiran Telecom delivers €2 million communications solution to Irish Rail

3 years 2 months ago → Contracts

Petach Tikva, Israel - June 13, 2007 - Tadiran Telecom®, a leading global IP business telephony and communications supplier, today announced the successful completion of another project with Irish Rail for the Dublin Area Rapid Transport (DART) system and its Central Train Control (CTC) Center. The DART project follows a successful relationship between Irish Rail and Tadiran in which Tadiran supplied a QSIG standard signaling protocol network of over 200 Coral® IPx 500 and Coral FlexiCom PBX systems for the Irish Rail's Emergency Lineside Systems. The projects were delivered through Tadiran's partner in Ireland, Diacom Computer Telephony. The total value of the contracts with Irish Rail is in excess of €2 million.

The overall system concept was conceived with significant design input from the Irish Rail Signalling and Telecoms Group. The DART line supports 30 stations connected to the Central Train Control Center. Diacom installed 30 Coral IPx 500 systems, which are networked to a duplicated redundant Coral FlexiCom 5000 system. The CTC, which is located in Connolly station in Dublin, provides services to each station to support administration telephony and passenger help points, including a passenger hot line and passenger booking offices.

Rinaldo Paolozzi, Head of Telecoms New Projects with Irish Rail said, "Tadiran Coral systems were selected because of their reliability and flexibility. In a rail network environment these are critical requirements and the Coral systems have a proven track record in this respect."

As part of the Transport 21 plan initiated by the Irish Government to address Ireland's infrastructural requirements for the 21st century, Tadiran and Diacom were selected to provide Irish Rail with the telecommunications solution to support the new nationwide automated level crossing system. Transport 21 is the capital investment framework through which the transport system in Ireland will be developed over the period 2006 to 2015. This framework will address the twin challenges of past investment backlogs and continuing growth in transport demand. The projects and programs that make up Transport 21 will aim to increase accessibility, ensure sustainability, expand capacity, increase use and enhance the quality of the Irish railroad system. Tadiran will supply a redundant Coral FlexiCom 6000 system with fully duplicated fiber remote shelves to service over 1,000 emergency level crossing telephones. A particular feature of the system is the level crossing telephones, which incorporate a self-test module and are vandal resistant.

"Our success with Irish Rail, as well as many other rail projects including very large contracts in India, China and Russia are based on Tadiran's ability to provide products that are robust and flexible. Rail networks require a telephone system that meets very precise and strict operational and safety standards," said Zeev Aviv, VP of Sales and Marketing at Tadiran Telecom. "We are successful in various vertical markets including transportation, healthcare, energy infrastructure, finance, and others because our products are well designed, allowing maximum flexibility and enabling us to be very responsive to the market."

Tadiran's telephony solutions have already been deployed in other transportation projects in China, including Dalian International, Huhhot, Tianjin, Wuhan, Zhenzhou, Hainan Phoenix and Wuxi airports, the internal Metro Express in Beijing airport, and subway numbers 5 and 4, especially built for the Beijing Olympic Games.
