Irvine, CA - (October 16, 2007) - Solarflare Communications, the leader in standards-based 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) silicon and reference designs, has appointed Dean Barnat as its vice president of operations. Barnat and his team will play an important role as leading original equipment manufacturers (OEMS) bring to market 10GbE switch and server products based on Solarflare 10GbE silicon, taking enterprises and data centers to the next level in networking.
As vice president of operations, Barnat will be responsible for managing worldwide supply chain manufacturing operations, including foundry, assembly, test and logistics. He recently served as a consultant for Solarflare, helping develop the company's 10Xpress product suite, including its 10GBASE-T PHY, the only transceiver meeting the stringent requirements of the IEE802.3an standard.
"We are delighted and proud to welcome Dean Barnat full-time to the Solarflare team," said Russell Stern, CEO of Solarflare. "His experience in semiconductor operations and strong leadership capabilities are great assets to our company. We look forward to Dean's contributions to our continued innovation and growth in the high-performance 10 Gigabit Ethernet space."
Prior to Solarflare, Barnat was vice president of operations for RF Magic, an RFIC company that was acquired by Entropic Communications in June 2007. While at RF Magic, he managed IC test development, product engineering and manufacturing operations.
"Solarflare is undergoing rapid expansion and I'm very happy to join its talented, dedicated group," said Barnat. "I look forward to contributing to the company's leadership team as it establishes an authoritative position in this important technology space. 10GBASE-T is coming to market in a big way as Web 2.0, virtualization and other next-generation applications drive performance upgrades in data centers and enterprises worldwide."
Barnat has also worked for Peregrine Semiconductor, Brooktree and Unisys Corporation where he contributed to and led development and deployment of digital, mixed signal and RFIC test solutions supporting characterization, qualification and production. Barnat holds a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from San Diego State University.
About Solarflare 10GbE Products
Solarflare is the first to deliver both 10 Gigabit Ethernet controller and 10GBASE-T PHY technology. The Solarstorm Ethernet controller delivers the optimal balance of performance, power and price. Solarflare's 10Xpress 10GBASE-T PHY supports distances of greater than 100 meters on UTP Category 6A cabling, 100 meters on STP Category 6, 55 meters on UTP Category 6, and 45 meters on UTP Category 5E cabling. The combination of Solarstorm 10GbE controller and 10Xpress 10GBASE-T PHY enables NIC and server OEM customers to bring 10G server adapters to market at about the same cost as quad 1G server adapters-driving the widespread implementation of 10GbE in data centers and enterprise networks. Solarflare silicon solutions are currently sampling to switch, NIC and server OEM customers. Pricing is available upon request.
