ETTERS, PA. (June 3, 2009) — FCI Electronics, a leading developer of connectors and interconnect systems, announces that it has agreed to license the Pwr TwinBlade™ I/O Connector System to Tyco Electronics. This agreement builds on FCI’s and Tyco Electronics’ previous power licensing success by providing a certified second source for this high power I/O cable-to-board connector solution.
Pwr TwinBlade meets customer demands for high power delivery and distribution in servers, storage enclosures, networking, communications or industrial equipment. It is designed to address requirements that extend beyond the capability of many existing cable- to-board power connectors.
“Customers are requesting next generation power solutions to meet emerging application requirements,” said John Dodds, FCI’s global product marketing manager for power products. “The market is best served when these solutions are available with certified second sources. This agreement allows FCI and Tyco Electronics to successfully meet both criteria thus ensuring joint intermateability and performance along with continuity of supply.”
The Pwr TwinBlade connector system anticipates increasing system power demands that are driving the need for greater power density. This connector system accommodates up to 100 amps per twin contact based on a 30°C temperature rise with zero airflow. It supports multiple wire sizes including 10mm2, 16mm2 and 25mm2 and is available with straight or right angle cable exit options for maximized routing flexibility. The right angle board connector enables use in front I/O applications.
In addition, Pwr TwinBlade features a robust design with touch-proof safety features, an integrated active latching system, four coding key options and a polarized housing to ensure proper mating. Similar to other FCI power products, Pwr TwinBlade offers a vented housing design to optimize heat dissipation and features cost-effective stamped-and-formed contacts.
